Throughout America’s history there have been thousands of criminals. In 2008, there were 2.3 million individuals behind bars. And approximately one in every 19 men in the United States is in jail . Britain sent more than soldiers to the colonists - they banished robbers and thieves to the New World as wellEngland used to ship some of their criminals to the colonies when America first began, and the U.S. has always been a defiant nation with unruly citizens. We are well known for not liking the strictures of society at times. That way of thinking has continually been passed from parent to child. Not surprisingly, The United States has had more than their fair share of criminals including the following seven so it is a good thing there is the perception of a strong body of law officers. When this country was founded there weren't too many employed to uphold the law, but as the country expanded the need for officers and others to uphold the law grew as well. Throughout our history there have been many sharp and hardhearted criminals. Fortunately, there have been scores of police who have willingly sacrificed and endangered themselves in order to capture these criminals and keep the public safe. With a lot of time and effort, officers were able to hinder the crimes that were being committed by these seven individuals. 1. Jesse James - was a gang leader, bank and train robber and was a murderer as well. He was never captured by law enforcement but was gunned down by a member from his own band of thieves. 2. Al Capone - or Scarface Al - The notorious mobster was arrested and charged for smuggling liquor during the Prohibition era but was only convicted of income-tax evasion. He served in Alcatraz. 3. Bonnie and Clyde - At the time of the Great Depression this duo held up a dozen banks and were allegedly guilty of killing an estimated nine police officers and quite a few civilians. They were later killed by police. 4. Ted Bundy - The serial killer and rapist was known to have committed over 30 murders but the actual number is unknown. It was in Florida in 1989 that he was executed for his final murder. 5. Frank Abagnale Jr., - Frank forged checks that equaled more than $2.5 million around twenty six countries in the 1960s. He also passed himself off as a prison inspector, medical professional, attorney, pilot, and 4 other identities. He now works as a U.S. security consultant for the FBI and heads his own company. 6. Timothy McVeigh - The former army veteran was convicted and executed for his part in the Oklahoma City bombing where one hundred and sixty eight lives were lost. 7. Colton Harris Moore - The 18-year-old has been able to dodge authorities a number of times. He is suspected of stealing four aircraft, a boat and a vehicle as well as perpetrating home burglaries in the Pacific Northwest. Six of these criminals used to be, while 1 still remains a bain to law enforcement officials. There will be more like them in the future. Criminal Justice is a career with a projection to continue to grow, and therefore it has great job security.
