The supremacy of Roger Federer

By: ScottX

In professional tennis hardly any can equal the phenom known as Roger Federer. This man has attained everything pro tennis has to provide and he continues winning. It seems as if there is no slow down in sight for this man. Everytime he shows up at tennis tournaments and picks up tennis rackets, he seems to win. He's won tennis tournaments on every single surface you can think of, clay, grass, hard courts. Nothing has stood in his way. He is by far one of the most consistent athletes tennis has ever seen.
Early on in his career Roger Federer had his ups and downs like most players. His beginning tournament as a professional was Gstaad in 1998, when he went against Lucas Arnold Ker in the Round of 32, and he was overcome 4-6, 4-6. This defeat didn't hold him down for long though. Federer's initial final came at the Marseille Open, which was in 2000, and he lost out to fellow Swiss Marc Rosset 6-2, 3-6, 6-7. It took him awhile to get in his winning ways, but Federer's initial win was at the 2000 Milan Indoor tournament, which he beat Julien Boutter by a score of 6-4, 6-7, 6-4. The most distinguished events finals he was in at this time was the 2002 Miami Masters event, where he lost to Andre Agassi bya score of 3-6, 3-6, 6-3, 4-6 on a hard surface. Moreover, Federer won his initial Master Series event at the 2002 Hamburg Masters on clay by a score of 6-1, 6-3, 6-4 over Marat Safin. Federer competed in ten singles finals during this moment in his pro career between 1998 and 2002, which he was victorious in four and failed in six. From the years 1998 into 2002, Federer was in six finals in doubles. Of note are the finals at the Indian Wells Masters, which Federer along with partner Max Mirnyi were defeated in 2002, but they did overcome in the 2002 Rotterdam 500 series event. In 2001, Federer would win the exact same contest with Jonas Björkman.
The next couple years is when Roger Federer would really show his form and finally start to come into his own. In the 2003 season, Federer won his beginning slam at the 2003 Wimbledon Championships, in which he downed Mark Philippoussis by a score of 7-6(5), 6-2, 7-6(3).
Federer achieved in his first and only doubles Masters Series 1000 Event in Miami with Max Mirnyi, and made it to one singles Masters Series 1000 Event in Rome on clay, which he failed. Federer then made it to nine championships on the ATP Tour, which he came out the victor in seven of them, including the 500 series competitions at Dubai and Vienna. Federer finished the year by winning the Year-End Championships by taking down Andre Agassi. In 2004, Federer would go on to win the Australian Open,Wimbledon, and the US open respectively.
Fast forward a little to the present day and you will see, when Roger Federer picks up tennis rackets, he still is a winner. In the 2009 season, Roger Federer was victorious in two slams, which were the French Open win by defeating Robin Soderling in 6-1, 7-6(1), 6-4 and the Wimbledon Championships win by overcoming Andy Roddick 5-7, 7-6(6), 7-6(5), 3-6, 16-14.
