Spring cleaning tips for your car

By: Darren Kingsley

This April is our National Care Care Month and for good reason. I can't think of an easy way to say it, prolonged cold weather on your vehicle is hell. It zaps the juice out of the battery, puts undo strain on the engine every morning your crank it over in the freezing cold, not to mention the literal salt bath we put our vehicles thorough every time we go out for a spin.
Lets face it, the winter weather is harsh not just on you, but your poor vehicle too. Keeping up with fresh motor oil is a must the freezing weather can and will wreak absolute havoc on the entire engine and all of it's moving parts. As the cold engine start ups are among the most severe conditions that an automotive engine will ever face. Drivers need to take care of their cars with quality motor oil to help the vehicle endure the freezing temperatures as most of the States change from cold to warm spring weather. The changing of each season serves as a reminder of just how important it is to use a high quality motor oil in your engine.
Salt can be a huge problem specifically in areas that receive heavy amounts of snow. When unchecked salt coating the bottom of your vehicle will cause massive amounts of rust and decay on the bottom of your beloved car. Personally l suggest you run your car through a drive through car wash and get an under carriage rinse every couple of weeks during the winter to help wash off the the corrosive salt and prevent damage to your vehicle. That said this should be the first thing you do when spring hits, get the under carriage of your vehicle thoroughly cleaned and washed to remove all traces of salt.
Flush the fuel system , Most car owners use a fuel system cleaning product in the cool winter weather to stop the freezing weather from stressing the engine, this helps especially during cold startups. Remember to continue the use of a quality fuel system cleaning product once the winter weather has passed, because engine sludge can collect inside the fuel system. Products like Gumout Regane were developed to cleanse the engine's combustion chamber, fuel injectors, carburetors, which will maximize fuel economy and overall engine performance.
Another common problem that automobile are faced with every year when dealing with the cool weather is the build up of mold spores on the interior of the car. Snow sticks to boots or shoes, you hop in your car the snow melts and pools under the carpeting of your vehicle. Over time this water causes a breeding ground for mold spores and other nasty things, that can cause problems for you come spring. It is suggested that a large shop vacuum is used to help suck up as much of the moisture as possible and allow the mats to dry thoroughly.
This spring give you car some much needed TLC by giving it a complete thorough cleaning and consider a full tune up every other year while you're at it. Trust me Your car will thank you for it.
