By: Nils Hyatt

This information is on configuring and optimizing Fuppes Media Server, which can help enhance the quality of you media playback. Whereas improving the quality of your media, I may also show you the best way to make your DLNA and UPnp units more suitable with the Fuppes Media Server. To start configuring and tweaking the Fuppes Media Server, you are going to want to open up the fuppes.cfg file. The fuppes.cfg file could possibly be situated in a number of completely different areas on you Ubuntu linux server. When you open up your fuppes.cfg files, it is best to have a file that appears like my original fuppes.cfg.

vi /root/.fuppes/fuppes.cfg
vi /home/USERNAME/fuppes.cfg
vi /etc/fuppes/fuppes.cfg

The first thing that you are going to want to do is add the directories to the place your media is at the moment located in your linux server. This needs to be situated at around line 4 or 5 within the fuppes.cfg file.

/var/www/Media/Movies/
/var/www/Media/Music
/var/www/Media/Pictures-Home-Videos

After you may have located you media directories and have inserted the folder areas into your fuppes.cfg files, you will then have to specify to Fuppes on what ip address and port quantity to run the media server on. Instead of specifying a certain ip handle, you can also insert the network interface instead. And so on ...eth0, eth1.

The subsequent factor that you're going to wish to do is enable DLNA. Scroll all the way down to about line 44 and alter false to true.

Lastly scroll all the way down to about line 186 and enable the ps3 for usage with your fuppes media server.

UPnP/1.0 DLNADOC/1.00
PLAYSTATION3

Then scroll right down to line one hundred ninety and ensure that again DLNA is enabled for the playstation 3.

true

After you've gotten enabled the PS3 and dlna, all you need to do now's make sure that transcoding is enabled within the fuppes.cfg file for the ps 3.
