Purpose and Passion in Internet Marketing

By: Jose Anajero

When I was beginning my business four years ago, my friend asked me who's my idol in marketing. My immediate answer was - Rick Warren.

Pastor Rick Warren, though not your normal businessman, is extensively acknowledged as very entrepreneurial. As a minister of one of the largest Christian churches in the USA, his business acumen has been acknowledged. Some folks say that if Rick Warren is in the business world, he would meet the criteria as a CEO of a Fortune 500 corporation. His famous book Purpose Driven Church is now a standard management book; a suggested reading for Bank of America managers. And it served as one of the most important internet business resources for me.

More or less four years ago, I resigned from my quite relaxed job in the government to follow my entrepreneurial dream. Since my desire is to help myself become flourishing entrepreneur while helping others, I thought network marketing was the perfect business model for me.

I wanted to grow a Christ-centered network marketing team but I was clueless No one in my upline could aid. During that time, I didn't know what book to study. But my attention was drawn to Rick Warren's Purpose Driven Church.

Although Rick Warren never expected it would be used as a business management resource, there's so much the world of business can benefit from it.

Nothing precedes purpose, as Rick Warren says. The beginning spot for every church, or any organization or business for that matter, should be the question, "Why do we exist?"

Right from the beginning, I knew what my purpose in business was. That's why in spite of all the problems I experienced this past four years, I never wavered. Although I'm no longer doing network marketing, my initial dream of aiding other businessmen has never changed. Through the support of my online marketing adviser, I'm now equipping myself to become an online marketing consultant in the future.

Perusing Rick Warren's Purpose Driven Church is like reading a typical management or marketing book. For instance, there are sections on "Defining Your Purposes", "Who is Your Target", "Knowing Whom You Can Best Reach", and "Developing Your Strategy".

When I left my job, I never expected shifting from employee to entrepreneur would be lingering and arduous for me. Although the idea of giving up never occurred to me, there were sad moments when I didn't know where to go. It's during those times that I would be reminded of the story shared by Rick Warren on Chinese bamboo tree.

The Chinese bamboo tree is a wonderful plant. You plant a bamboo sprout in the ground. You water and fertilize for four or five years but it lies undeveloped. But on the fifth year, things change dramatically. In a six-week period it grows to be a stunning ninety feet tall!

Each person goes through a so-called learning curve. We may not be seeing any solid results when we are just starting out in internet business. But we should not be disheartened. If we keep at it, in due time and with the support of God, we will reap our reward.
