The New York Yankees are one of the popular teams in all of sports, for a good reason. They represent one of the greatest cities in the world and have always had lots of success. They've won 27 world series, have 40 AL pennants, and 16 east division titles. Not many teams can match up to that. They also have retired the numbers for 15 different baseball jerseys. Of course with all this success comes criticism. Especially from Boston Redsox fans, who are usually pretty vocal about their hatred of the Yankees. All of this success however doesn't come cheap. The Yankees do have the highest salary in major league baseball. A whopping 200 million dollars. With all of this money the Yankees do have quite an advantage when it comes to paying for new players. It also gives them a lot of leverage in player negotiations. Which lots of other teams may not have. Some say success can't be bought, but I'm sure there are lots of Redsox fans who will disagree. Of course when the players put on their Yankees baseball jerseys it isn't an automatic recipe for great winning seasons. The Yankees have, like most teams gone through many times when things just didn't go well for them. Regardless of the players salaries. On August 31, 2004 the Yanks got pummeled by Indians 22 to 0. In baseball sometimes losses like that just happen. And of course who can forget the 2004 American League Championship Series. When New York went up three games to 0 and only had to win one more to go to the world series. The Red sox came back and proceeded to win 4 straight to go to the world series. Whoever said, players who wear Yankees baseball jerseys always have it good, sometimes just seem wrong. There is no doubt the Yankees are dominant more then they are being dominated. This is clearly shown through the teams record over the years. Along with all their world series wins. So as much as Red Sox fans hate to admit it. The Yankees are here to stay and will more than likely continue their success in the years to come.
