By: Jarda Trynka

One time in a while, each person needs to lie back and unwind. Merely to sleep and take a rest in sweet repose. Have a massage, enjoy one's day. The West Bohemian Spa Triangle is a perfect place for the rejuvenation of your soul & body.

The long-subsided volcanic activity on the edge of the Slavkov Forest was accompanied by the origin of mineral springs that have completed the zone of West Bohemia recognized all-around the world. Though Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad) , founded by the recognized Czech ruler Charles 4, is the most prominent spa city here, there are some additional no less marvelous spa towns in the region that are particularly popular with both people with some disorders and tourists. Although the helpful outcomes of the regional springs had evidently become recognized in as early as the tenth century, spas did not actually develop until a lot later, in the 19th century. At the same time, Franzienbad was designed at the very end of the 18th century, followed by the establishment of Marienbad, thus completing the "Spa Triangle". Domestic and overseas visitors alike have been approaching to benefit from the indigenous mineral springs for hundreds of years; the visitors' book of the spa resorts include the names of monarchs such as the English ruler Edward VII, Napoleon III, legendary composers such as Fryderyk Chopin and Richard Wagner, writers such as Johann W. Goethe, Mark Twain and Franz Kafka, or for illustration the honored Moravian-born creator of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud. But there is more. You could also benefit from the rich cultural program, go for biking, climbing and visiting the attractions trips, play tennis & golf, ride a horse, try water activities in summer and cross-country skiing in winter.

Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad / Karlsbad)

Carlsbad is the best recognized spa town positioned in West Bohemia. It was founded nearly 1350 by the Holy Roman Emperor & King of Bohemia, Charles IV. Its grand roads as well as colonnades are surrounded by tranquil forested hills crisscrossed with hiking and cycling ways that are ideal for enjoyable walks all time round.
A busy cultural events calendar, various festivals & international conferences put up Carlsbad the major & liveliest spa city in the Czech Republic visited not only by the spa-goers but also celebrities. Karlovy Vary achieved its fame also thanks to its well-known plant based liqueur called Becherovka (nicknamed "The 13th Spring"), Mattoni mineral water, exclusive spa wafers, and Moser crystal work.
The curing waters from the springs in the valley of the Tepla River have been used by people from time immemorial - both for consuming as well as bathing.

Marianske Lazne (Marienbad)

The city of Marienbad (Marianske Lazne) lies in a good-looking wide valley in West Bohemia, 628 meters above sea level. An roughly twenty km wide strip of forest with numerous hiking trails passes right through the spa resort.
Marianske Lazne enjoys an excellent reputation all-around the world both for its therapeutic treatment methods and efficient natural therapeutic sources, as well as for its scenic, enchanting surroundings. Almost one hundred old springs have been revealed in and all-around the town, all with high concentration of CO2. Some had been revealed as early as in the 16th century.
A real jewel among the neighboring neoclassical buildings is the spa colonnade built in 1889. The spa area is dominated by the so-called 'Singing Fountain' entertaining the passers-by with music and light performances.
Marienbad (Marianske Lazne) launched its 1st spa season in 1808, but rapidly became a trendy resort among Europe's elite. Amongst its customers had been English Ruler Edward VII., Polish composer & pianist Fryderyk Chopin and German bard Goethe.
The regional spas specialize in treating musculoskeletal problems, & disorders of the urinary tract, kidney and gynecological problems. The remedies are based on natural resources - cold ferrite acidulous water, natural gas, CO2 and mud.

Frantiskovy Lazne (Franzienbad)

Frantiskovy Lazne (Franzienbad), established in 1793, is a worldwide recognized spa city located in the western corner of the Czech Republic. Thankfulness to its neoclassical spa buildings and pavilions the township preserved the irreplaceable atmosphere of the early 20th century and is regarded as one of the most charming spa cities in the land.
The area provides moderate climate, unpolluted air as well as quiet city life. Numerous parks around the city with its promenades & musicians are a ideal location for stress-free walks. All these reasons add to the curing effects of the local mineral springs so as to each year attract numerous spa-guests.
