College is an experience that changes your life. College can last from 2-? Years and creates memories that will last forever. There are hundreds of groups, clubs, and teams that students can get involved with. There are thousands of new friends they can make, and millions of different ideas and views they will create. It is also something that can put you into debt for several years after graduation. That is why scholarships and financial aid are so important. For the millions of high school students who are in the band, there are thousands of different college band scholarships that are available to you. Whether you think so or not, every student who attends college should be able to receive at least one kind of scholarship. There are so many scholarships out there that aren't even given because kids don't fill out the paper work. Putting in the extra effort can really help pay for a huge chunk of college. If you are in the band and are thinking about continuing in college, there are several thousand scholarships that you can take. Obviously there are the ones that you will get to become part of the band. Just because you may not be first chair or the best in your school does not mean that you won't receive a band scholarship. When you have chosen the schools that you are interested in, look deeper into what kind of band scholarships they offer. Large and elite universities will be more competitive than a smaller college. Keep this in mind. If you are looking to play in the band in college and want a scholarship, think about looking at the smaller schools. Not only are you more likely to receive a scholarship, but you will also receive more one on one lessons. Another kind of band scholarship that many people don't think about is the assistant or work study scholarships. This is basically a job that the director gives you and in return you receive financial aid. Again, there is less competition in smaller schools which will give you an advantage for the scholarship. There are hundreds of college band scholarships that are just waiting to be taken. It is the student's responsibility to find the scholarships, fill the application out, and put in that extra effort that will guarantee you a scholarship. Even if it is a smaller partial scholarship, every bit counts.
