By: Vojta Zaruba

One time in a time, every person desires to lie back and unwind. Simply to snooze and get a break in sweet repose. Have a massage, take pleasure in one's day. The West Bohemian Spa Triangle is a just right place for the rebirth of your soul and body.

The long-subsided volcanic activity on the periphery of the Slavkov Forest was accompanied by the origin of mineral springs that have completed the district of West Bohemia prominent all-around the earth. Though Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad) , established by the celebrated Czech ruler Charles IV, is the most prominent spa town here, there are numerous further no less brilliant spa towns in the territory that are particularly popular with both patients and travelers. Although the helpful outcomes of the local springs had evidently turn out to be famous in as early as the tenth century, spas did not actually blossom until much later, in the nineteenth century. At the same time, Franzienbad was founded at the very end of the 18th century, followed by the setting up of Marianske Lazne, accordingly completing the "Spa Triangle". Domestic and overseas visitors alike have been approaching to take pleasure in the local mineral springs for hundreds of years; the visitors' book of the spa resorts take in the names of crowned heads such as the English ruler Edward VII, Napoleon III, celebrated composers such as Fryderyk Chopin and Richard Wagner, writers such as Johann W. Goethe, Mark Twain and Franz Kafka, or for instance the honored Moravian-born founder of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud. Although there is much more. You can as well get pleasure from the rich cultural program, go away for cycling, mountain climbing and sightseeing trips, play tennis and golf, ride a horse, try water sports activities in summer and cross-country skiing in winter.

Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad / Karlsbad)

Carlsbad is the best well-known spa town situated in West Bohemia. It was established about 1350 by the Holy Roman Emperor & King of Bohemia, Charles IV. Its grand roads & colonnades are surrounded by tranquil wooded hills crisscrossed with mountain climbing and cycling paths that are ideal for pleasant walks all year round.
A tiring cultural events calendar, many festivals & international conferences put up Carlsbad the leading and liveliest spa city in the Czech Republic visited not only by the spa-guests but also celebrities. Carlsbad achieved its fame also thanks to its well-known herbal liqueur known as Becherovka (nicknamed "The 13th Spring"), Mattoni mineral water, distinctive spa wafers, and Moser crystal glass.
The healing mineral water from the springs in the valley of the Tepla River have been used by public from time immemorial - both for drinking as well as bathing.

Marianske Lazne (Marienbad)

The city of Marienbad (Marianske Lazne) lies in a beautiful wide valley in West Bohemia, 628 meters above sea level. An approximately twenty km wide strip of forest with numerous mountain climbing paths passes right all through the spa town.
Marienbad (Marianske Lazne) enjoys an outstanding status around the world both for its treatment methods and efficient natural remedial sources, as well as for its charming, delightful view. Almost a hundred old springs have been revealed in and around the city, all with great concentration of CO2. Some were revealed as early as in the 16th century.
A genuine gem among the local neoclassical buildings is the spa town colonnade created in 1889. The spa region is dominated by the so-called 'Singing Fountain' entertaining the passers-by with melody and light performances.
Marianske Lazne launched its 1st spa season in 1808, but quickly became a popular resort amongst Europe's elite. Amongst its visitors had been English Ruler Edward VII., Polish composer and pianist Fryderyk Chopin and German poet Goethe.
The area spas specialize in treating musculoskeletal problems, & disorders of the urinary tract, kidney and gynecological problems. The therapies are based on natural resources - cold ferrite acidulous water, natural gas, CO2 and mud.

Frantiskovy Lazne (Franzienbad)

Frantiskovy Lazne, founded in 1793, is a world famous spa town situated in the western area of the Czech Republic. Thanks to its neoclassical spa buildings & pavilions the town preserved the rare atmosphere of the early twentieth century & is regarded as one of the most picturesque spa town in the land.
The region offers mild climate, unpolluted atmosphere and quiet town life. Many parks around the town with its promenades & musicians are a great place for enjoyable walks. All these issues add to the curative effects of the local mineral springs that each year draw many spa-guests.
