Avoid the Urban Stress in Pai Valley Thailand

By: Malcolm Middle

A quick drive from Chiang Mai town is one of the most captivating and lovely little towns in Thailand. The town is called Pai Town Thailand and it's a quiet chilled out place situated in a lovely little valley. A short time ago it wasn't that well known, but in the last decade it has turned into a top location for Thai's and foreigners alike, trying to remove themselves from the hustle bustle of city life. You'll find yourself sent back in time in Pai Town, with the old Thai style buildings around the town and bamboo bungalows for those looking to have a traditional Thai experience.
If you visit Pai Town Thailand there's a good chance that you will be entranced by its charm just as some prior visitors have. A good number of the residents in the Pai Valley came for a quick time and never left. They became enamoured with the town and it's relaxed atmosphere and chose to call it their home.
Getting There and Around
The best way to get to Pai Town from Chiang Mai town is to hop on the public buses or the private mini vans that leave from the Arcade bus station. The buses are definitely safer as they take the route a bit slower, but the private vans will make your journey a bit shorter. The private vans seem to speed through the twisted and winding roads on the way to Pai Valley Thailand and might not be the wisest decision for people who are timid or prone to motion sickness. Either way you will get to enjoy many panaromic views of the mountains on your trip. Pai Town Thailand itself is quite small and once you arrive it's easy to get around using a rented bike, motorcycle or just relax and walk.
Activities and Sights
There are many Wats, or temples, located around Pai Thailand and one of the easiest to get to from the town center is Wat Mae Yen. This temple is perched on top of a small hill and provides a wonderful view of the rice fields surrounding Pai Town, the surrounding mountains and of Pai Town itself.
A bit further afield you can see the Mo Pang Falls where a cooling swim or thrilling water slide is possible all year round. You should also make time to visit As you get further away from Pai Thailand you will encounter many great things to see. One that shouldn't be missed is the Pai Valley, which you can find on the road arriving from Chiang Mai. A quick climb to the top of the hill will reward you with a wonderful glimpse of the Pai Valley, Pai Town and the nearby mountains. The ideal time to come is at sunset when you can see the sun sink behind the mountains. Also not to be missed are the numerous waterfalls around the the Pai Valley area where you can enjoy the waters and refresh yourself.
Elephant rides and river rafting are very popular traveler entertainments in Pai Town Thailand. Most of the elephant safaris offer riding bare back on the elephants either through the river or jungle or both. If you choose the river, be sure to get wet since part of the program is a rodeo ride on the elephant! For rafting, you can enjoy a two day excursion on the Pai River rapids.
Or just do nothing, sip Chai tea, chill out and watch the day slip by. That is definitely a top tourist activity in this charming town. Urban development in recent years has seen Pai Thailand losing its little town charms a bit. Get here quick before it turns into another commercialized tourist trap.
