Driving can be relaxing, enjoyable and a whole lot of fun. The open road, the power under the bonnet of your car and the joy of going around a corner at exactly the right speed! But there are also a number of situations that can turn your happy automotive experience into a real bad trip. 1. ‘Going-Slow-For-No-Apparent-Reason-Drivers’. Why do some people insist on driving at a ridiculously slow speed on main roads? You know the sort, they potter along at a mph that is just below your own car’s ‘comfortable-in-fifth-gear’ speed! And then, after being stuck behind them for miles on end, they will accelerate rapidly into the distance when it is safe to overtake. These overly slow people are just as dangerous as those who drive too fast. 2. Tailgating. Not only is this a really inconsiderate way to behave, but it is also extremely dangerous. In fact, it is one of the most dangerous things that takes’ place on our roads! If you have someone behind you who is far too close, then having to brake sharply is a constant worry. Why do so many people insist on tailgating? They are not going to make anyone drive any faster and they are putting lives at risk; their own and other people’s. 3. Speed Cameras. These are every motorist’s nightmare. If you are doing 60mph in a 30 zone, then you damn well deserve to get caught, but speeding fines are not always fair. When you are driving in an unfamiliar area it is so easy to go a few mph over the limit for a few seconds before you realise your mistake. And if you are unlucky enough to be passing a camera at the same time then you can expect to get a nasty surprise in the post. Besides, if it were a police officer rather than a camera, then you would just get a warning from him. But cameras do not give out cautions; they only have the ability to send out speeding fines. 4. White Van Man. This guy really is the stuff of legends, but none of them are good ones... One moment there is nothing behind you at all and the next he is there; White Van Man! He will normally drive perilously close to the back of your car, before overtaking you and five other vehicles on a blind curve. Do normally placid drivers turn into something far more aggressive when they slide behind the wheel of a white van? Or are they just physcotic beings from another world; a world full of white vans where only the most insane drivers will reach their destination? 5. Road Works. They crop up everywhere, don’t they? But normally on a day when you are late getting to an urgent appointment! Yes, road works. We all find them frustrating and it is all made far worse when no-one seems to be doing anything. Do all road workers have a NVQ in drinking endless cups of tea whilst leaning on a spade??? Grrrrr! It is all so annoying! It makes you wonder why any of us actually bother to get in a car to begin with!
